The cycling route intersections network in Wallonia | A la carte itineraries



A booming bicycle touring infrastructure! Already well known in the Netherlands and Flanders, the network of cycle itineraries linked by intersections, called “pointsnoeuds” is developping in Wallonia.

 

They help cyclists to create an itinerary to suit themselves, according to their capabilities. A simple system of numbers and signposts situated at each intersection makes the paths easy to follow. It also allows people to alter their itinerary midway, as the fancy takes them. Discover themed routes that lead from one intersection to another.

 

The intersections network in Wallonie Picarde

Two nature parks (parcs naturels) and 1600km of points-noeuds itineraries await you and your bicycle in Wallonie Picarde, in the Province of Hainaut in western Wallonia. The cycle path network in Wallonie Picarde is the biggest in Wallonia.
 
Two maps cover the complete network: one for the region of Ath–Silly–Enghien and the Parc naturel du Pays des Collines, another for the region of Tournai–Mouscron and the Parc naturel des Plaines de l’Escaut..

The Intersections network in the Pays de Famenne

"Famenne à vélo" (Famenne by bike), which covers six municipalities in the Pays de Famenne region (Durbuy, Hotton, Marche-en-Famenne, Nassogne, Rochefort and Somme-Leuze) and straddles two provinces (Namur and the Belgian province of Luxembourg), is a network of 350km of cycle paths with signposted pointnoeuds in central Wallonia, comprising sections of the RAVeL routes, country roads and lanes, and surfaced paths through woodland.
 
“Famenne à vélo” also has four themed circuits: “La Dorsale Famennoise” (the Famenne ridge), from Houet to Bomal; “Les Crêtes” (the hillcrests), for sports-cyclists; “Les Mégalithes”, a historic circuit; and “La Vallée de la Lesse”, in the valley of the River Lesse, with attractions for all the family.

The "Vélo Tour Hautes-Fagnes Eifel" intersections network in the East Cantons

850km of cycle paths crossing landscape of exceptional beauty in eastern Wallonia, suitable for sportscyclists and quiet amblers alike.

"Vélo Tour Hautes-Fagnes Eifel", is also 17 different themed itineraries: the River Our circuit (Le Circuit de l’Our); the Lake and Forest circuit (“Lac et Forêt”); the Manderfeld circuit; the Pays de St-Vith circuit; the Mills of the River Our (Le Circuit des Moulins de l’Our); the Fagnes (fens) circuit; the River Warche circuit (Le Circuit de la Warche); the Energy Circuit (Le Circuit de l’Energie – hydro, solar and wind power); woodlands and hedgerows (Paysage Bocager); the Tour of the Lac de la Gileppe; the marshland route (La Route des Marais); the Vennbahn circuit; the descent from Eupen towards the Fagnes (La Descente d’Eupen vers les Fagnes); Tour of the Lac d’Eupen; the Eupen circuit (Le Circuit du pays d’Eupen); following the River Gueule (Le Circuit “Au Fil de la Gueule”), and the Drinking Water circuit (Le Circuit de l’Eau Potable).

The "1000 bornes à vélo" intersection network in the Pays de Chimay and the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse

The “1000 bornes à vélo” (1000 kilometres by bike) network in southwest Wallonia, so far signposted for 350km, has been specially built for hybrid or all-purpose bikes. It uses secure cycle paths and quiet roads, such as RAVeL routes and peaceful lanes through countryside and woodlands. It’s a good way to discover this green, wellpreserved and authentic part of Wallonia – a perfect setting for outdoor leisure activities.
 
It will eventually cover more than 650km in this region, embracing the municipalities of Beaumont, Chimay, Froidchapelle, Momignies, Sivry-Rance, Cerfontaine, Philippeville, Gerpinnes and Walcourt.

The "Montagne Saint-Pierre entre Geer et Meuse" intersections network in the Basse-Meuse region

The Montagne Saint-Pierre is a hill between the Rivers Geer and Meuse, between Liège and Maastricht, on the border between Wallonia, Flanders and the Netherlands. The network, covering 80km, takes you back and forth over the borders to Maastricht, Riemst, Eijsden, Bassenge, Oupeye and Visé.
