Barbençon is a village with a rich artisan and cultural past located in the province of Hainaut, only a few kilometres form the French border.

In the past, the village, once the stronghold of the Lords of Barbençon, was known for its glass making and Mable works. In fact, one of its most typical streets is called rue des Marbriers.

If you visit Barbençon, you must take the time to wander through the historical centre to appreciate its architecture. Make a stop at the Saint-Lambert church, a Gothic and Renaissance church which dates back to the 16th century. Have a look inside at the monuments that commemorate old masters of glass and marble, the altar and the baptismal font, which all hark back to the village's rich history.

After discovering the village's architecture, why not treat yourself to a relaxing break on the terrace at the Barbençon lake, under the watchful eye of the ramparts.

A visit to the historical farms is also worth the detour: La Jette Feuille with its 17th century towers, La Bouverie and La Perruque, outbuildings of the old castle... Continue your discovery - on foot, on horseback or by bike - along the signposted tracks and paths.

Barbençon is also known for its big bonfire, au unmissable folkloric event organised the Sunday after Mardi Gras.
